The inaugural event will now take place in 2011 and not as previously hoped in 2010. Although the majority of the infrastructure is in place, there is now significant risk that potential 2010 participants would have insufficient time to make the necessary arrangements (both personal and logistical) to accommodate the demanding training schedules required for an event of this type. The dates for 2011 are 16-18th September.
What is Adventure Racing?
By the late 1700s ultra running (or more commonly ‘Pedestrianism’) had become a huge spectator sport and could be said to be the ancestor of modern athletics and now, due much to the success of the legendary desert run, the Marathon des Sables, has made a return to main stream sport. It is unlikely that it will attract the crowds it did by the late 1800s, sometimes as many as 100,000, but it is definitely a rapidly expanding sport as more people look for ever greater personal challenges.
Our concept takes extreme running to a new level with the introduction of new challenges. During three stages, the Kent Ultra Challenge takes runners through countryside, coast and areas of natural and historical interest. The Challengers must overcome physical extremes which will test their courage, endurance and mental fortitude.
